Russian Railway: The first railway bridge between Russia and China will be opened to traffic in 2021
On August 10, Alexei Shilo, deputy general manager of Russian Railways, told reporters that the first railway bridge between Russia and China across the Amur River will be open to traffic this year and will be fully operational in 2022.
It is reported that the project is progressing rapidly and the bridge has been basically completed. Construction of the wide gauge (1520mm) has been completed.
The first railway bridge between Russia and China to cross the Amur River is the Lieninskoye-Tongjiang cross-border railway bridge. Construction of the bridge started in 2016, with a length of 2.2 kilometers and a railway subgrade of 309 meters in Russia. The bridge has two gauge standards, the Russian 1520mm gauge and the Chinese 1435mm gauge trains can pass.
Shiloh said, "The cargo volume of this project has been clarified, including both coal and ore. If we talk about export materials, it will reach about 8 million tons; imported goods will be about 400,000 tons.
Shiloh pointed out that the newly added border ports with China are necessary to improve logistics. "Those materials that are currently flocking to the eastern pole can be delivered earlier (more west) to Chinese partners."
